About this ebook

Strands of blonde hair escape from beneath the sheet and catch the dawn light creeping through the window. Silence falls as the fabric is drawn back to reveal the body of a young girl, her hands folded on her chest, her long lashes resting on her cold, pale cheeks.

When Detective Casey White finds the body of a teenager perfectly preserved in salt in an abandoned beach vacation home, her heart shatters. Tina Sommers has been missing since she set off to meet her friends for spring break. With her own daughter missing too, Casey knows how devastated the girl’s parents will be at this tragic end to their search.

Pushing her pain aside, Casey delves into old files and gets her first lead: years ago, a man murdered his wife and left her the same way. But he’s been locked up in prison all this time…

Interviewing him, Casey is certain the now frail and elderly prisoner couldn’t have hurt Tina himself. But is he somehow pulling strings from behind bars?

Then another perfectly preserved body is found, a threatening note addressed to Casey herself clutched in the girl’s hand. Running out of time and leads, Casey is hit with a realization that turns her blood to ice: her own daughter could be next…

An absolutely unputdownable read that will have you reading late into the night and gasping at the shocking twists. Perfect for fans of Kendra Elliot, Robert Dugoni and Melinda Leigh.

4.25⭐ The Crying House is a solid, extremely detailed and descriptive police procedural. That slowly drew me in thanks to a mummified body and the discovery of a dead teenager in an abandoned house by detective Casey White. And with two cases that seemingly aren't linked, more abandoned houses to search and the real possibility of a serial killer on the loose, this turned out to be a gripping read with characters that certainly piqued my interest. Would recommend. **I was kindly provided with an ARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review**

A pink jacket tossed on the fence of an abandoned house leads Detective Casey White to the scene of a recent party…and to the body of a local high school senior. During the preliminary investigation, another body is found on the second floor of the house. This body has been mummified using salt and has been ritually positioned. Who is she? And are these two deaths related? The cases bring Casey back to work after mandated time off for an injury. She’s determined to solve both cases while working with a newly organized team. They quickly narrow down a list of suspects in the first murder but, as always with B.R. Spangler, there are surprises. The second case is more complicated. Casey has to learn a lot about the mummification process and the amount of salt needed. A mysterious note found with the victim may provide a much needed clue. But then the case takes a turn closer to home. The Crying House has two plots lines woven together and moves back and forth between two time periods. It is the fourth in a series yet reads as a standalone thriller. Beautifully written, suspenseful, with well developed recurring characters, it is definitely a 5 star read. Thank yo to NetGalley, Bookouture and B.R. Spangler for this ARC.
