Not only is the bee my portable project, it’s also the one I can work on while watching TV. So, thanks to the recent European Championships, which happened right here in Munich, but which I still mostly watched via the excellent TV coverage, there’s quite a bit of progress to show today!

Here’s the state from the last update:

In-progress cross-stitch picture of a bee. Head, right feeler and front leg are visible on the lower left, followed by the upper outline of the right wing towards the right. Above that, a background of honeycomb in yellows and oranges. Towards the top, a small blue flower with five petals. In progress on the upper right is a bit of orange background, getting denser towards the outline of a flower below.

That orange blog looks much more solid today:

Above that, a background of honeycomb in yellows and oranges. Towards the top, a small blue flower with five petals. In progress on the upper right is a round blob of yellow-orange background, almost filled in..

More travel time coming up, so I hope to be able to make some more progress!

The last update on this one was back in June, but I haven’t done a whole lot on this project since then. So, I’m afraid it’s “spot the difference” day again!

Last time:

In-progress pic of a counted cross-stitch picture, showing a colourful owl in blues and greens sitting on a branch on a black background. The head and neck are done, the body is still missing.

Today:

Maybe one of those comparison gadgets will help see the changes?

Hmm, it’s really not a lot, but I did fill in a few colours around the neck ruffle, and any stitch done is one I don’t have to do later.

Another Bee update today, since I went on vacation and the Bee is the portable one of the projects I’m working on. Got a couple of days of stitching in, so there’s more orange to see. Last time:

In-progress cross-stitch picture of a bee. Head, right feeler and front leg are visible on the lower left, followed by the upper outline of the right wing towards the right. Above that, a background of honeycomb in yellows and oranges. Towards the top, a small blue flower with five petals. In progress on the upper right is a bit of orange background, still sparse.

And the orange blob got quite a bit bigger this time round:

Above that, a background of honeycomb in yellows and oranges. Towards the top, a small blue flower with five petals. In progress on the upper right is a bit of orange background, getting denser towards the outline of a flower below.

So, may be time to get back to the owls one of those days? Let’s hope so!

I managed to do a tiny bit on the bee this time round. Before:

In-progress picture of a counted cross-stitch picture of a bee. Shown is the right side of head and feelers, with the front edge of the right wing going diagonally upwards. Above that, a piece of honeycomb leading into partly-stitched unstructured background.

Today:

Above that, a background of honeycomb in yellows and oranges. Towards the top, a small blue flower with five petals. In progress on the upper right is a bit of orange background, still sparse.

I think this was just one session of watching TV. Hoping to do a bit more for next time.

I did work on another project, though: My parents will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary at the end of July and asked me to make the place cards. Since buying them and just writing the names on them is boring, I designed my own:

In-progess set of place cards, shown on a blue cutting mat. On the upper left a sample card in dark green with a violet crochet flower attached on the right side. Next on the left a set of six cut-out cards in light green. Below, eight crochet flowers in different variegated threads in oranges, reds, blues and violets.

The little flower is from one of my historical Irish crochet pattern books, and I really like making those in the different variegated threads. I think those cards will help to give a light and summery feel to the party!

I seem to have fallen into a summer hole and haven’t added a single stitch to either of my two projects in the last three weeks. I’ve been busy enough elsewhere, though. Lots of things to take care of all around. Hopefully I’ll get back on track soon! Do have a look at what everybody else has been doing, though!

It’s owl time again, and I’ve managed at least to put a few stitches in on his beautiful collar. Here’s where we were last time:

In-progress pic of a counted cross-stitch project with an owl on black background. The hair is blue feathers hanging down to the left and right, going partly over the eyes. The eyes and beak are finished, now the feathers below that are starting to develop - pinks below the eyes, greenish-brown below the beak.

And this is the current state of affairs:

In-progress pic of a counted cross-stitch picture, showing a colourful owl in blues and greens sitting on a branch on a black background. The head and neck are done, the body is still missing.

Progress on this is slow but steady, and I did find a few more podcasts to listen to while working on it.

I needed to find some TV to watch to make some actual progress on the bee, but in the last few days I’ve added a few stitches. Last time:

Image of a counted cross-stitch project in progress. At the bottom, the head and front leg of a bee is visible, followed by the upper outline of a wing going 45 degrees upward towards the right. Above that, there's background in the form of honeycomb cells in yellows and oranges. At the top, a little blue flower finishes the area. There's unworked background in the upper right.

There will be a lot of unstructured colour in the upper right corner, but all in the gorgeous yellows, oranges and reds that make this piece so appealing to me. Here’s today’s picture:

In-progress picture of a counted cross-stitch picture of a bee. Shown is the right side of head and feelers, with the front edge of the right wing going diagonally upwards. Above that, a piece of honeycomb leading into partly-stitched unstructured background.

Lots more colour ahead in the corner, and I’m looking forward to finish it and then work my way down.

Just a tiny bit of an update on the owls today, but any progress is progress, right?

Previously:

The eyes and beak are finished, now the feathers below that are starting to develop - pinks below the eyes, greenish-brown below the beak.

Trying to find some additional podcasts in order to get regular stitching time on this one.

After March being very warm and sunny last weekend, April is starting with a layer of snow on everything and more coming down. What better time than to do a bit of stitching and look at the nice, sunny colours of my Bee again? Here’s last time:

In progress-picture of a counted cross-stitch project, showing an area of honeycomb in oranges and yellows. On the top, a small five-petalled blue flower, on the bottom the head of a bee with a feeler and a front leg extending over the honeycomb.

The honeycomb is pretty much finished, and I made a start on the unstructured background in the upper right corner:

Above that, there's background in the form of honeycomb cells in yellows and oranges. At the top, a little blue flower finishes the area. There's unworked background in the upper right.

Also, my nifty app is telling me that I’ve done pretty much exactly 25% of the whole project. Yay!

It’s time for the owls again! I ran out of podcast, and have a lot of other things going on, so not as much progress today, but there’s been some. Last time:

In-progress pic of a counted cross-stitch project with an owl on black background. The hair is blue feathers hanging down to the left and right, going partly over the eyes. The yellowish beak in the middle is just being worked.

Today:

The beak is pretty much finished, and the area below the head is starting to fill in. Let’s see what will happen till next time!
