UNISON Protest Rally Against Fire and Rehire Tuesday 22 June

The fire and rehire of staff at Sandwell Leisure Trust was totally unjustified. Done for financial reasons, Sandwell Leisure Trust began the pandemic with £4million in reserves. 15 months later they still have £3.9million in reserves. Hardly a cash strapped organisation.

Saving just £100,000 in the first year of moving away from the national NJC negotiating body for pay, terms and conditions – the Council even offered to make good the difference if the Trust remained an NJC employer.

The fire and rehire took place while the new £73million Aquatic Centre for the 2022 Commonwealth Games is still being built. Will Sandwell’s legacy from the Games be that the staff running the centre were fired and rehired?
