Strategic Planning consultations

As part of the preparation of Strategic Planning documents, we regularly consult with the public, in order to hear your views on what is being proposed.

Trafford Design Code Viability Assessment Consultation

Update

The consultation period is extended until the 19 April.

Following a successful series of consultation events on the draft Trafford Design Code, work on the Design Code continues to progress. As part of the ongoing work to deliver the Design Code, an independent Viability Assessment has been commissioned to review of the effects of the Trafford Design Code on residential development in Trafford. This report tests the ability of residential development in Trafford to viably comply with the new Design Code.

We are now seeking your comments on this Viability Assessment and are inviting you to review the Viability Assessment and complete our questionnaire.

Alternatively, if you would like to make comments on the Viability Assessment by email, send your comments to designingtrafford@trafford.gov.uk.

This consultation period will run from 16 January to 19 April.

Draft Trafford Wharfside Development Framework and Masterplan

The Trafford Wharfside area represents a major development and regeneration site in the borough due to its size, strategic position on the southern bank of the Manchester Ship Canal, opportunities for future residential, employment and mixed uses, and home to major businesses such as Manchester United.

Our draft Trafford Wharfside Framework and Masterplan have been developed to offer a vision for the Trafford Wharfside area as a key emerging neighbourhood over the next 15 years and how it should operate as a ‘place’. The documents have been prepared by us in discussion with major landowning partners including Peel, Manchester United and Salford City Council.

A number of potential development sites have been identified and will be used to set an overall strategy to guide future, well designed development in the area which:

  • places nature and landscape at the heart of the vision
  • celebrates the Manchester Ship Canal waterfront and the Imperial War Museum
  • creates opportunities for 2,500 high quality new homes within the plan period (Places for Everyone plan) - with a potential for a further c2,500 over a longer term
  • better connects Trafford Wharfside to Salford Quays
  • develops a high-quality setting for Manchester United as they develop their plans for a world-class football stadium

The vision for Trafford Wharfside is for an area of well-connected communities where all amenities, landmarks and public spaces are easily accessed.
