APPLE PRESENTATION

In the 20th century, media became the new church to worship. We take as gospel what news tells us, but this is but one reality. In he 1960s, one man and his friends sought to underdo the burgeoning power of the media. Like most innovators he was ridiculed, before taken seriously. His legacy, as this video I played at Apple, lives on. This is the late, great Robert Drew.

This was my third presentation at Apple in so many years. The theme this time around looked at the legacy and cognitivism of great cinema makers. We believe we're creatures of the here and now, such that everything we do appears to be new. Even this digital enlightenment appears as a period like no others.

The history of innovation tells us otherwise. From the 17th Century enlightenment of Descarte, Locke, Newton, Kant et al, we've been here before and there are more than enough lessons to help us through the future.

Cinema Journalism

It's important to recognise the difference between skills and knowledge. Cinema Journalism is not wholly dependent on technology. It is an artistic craft that embraces skill sets, but places a premium on comprehending theories and pragmatic approaches to innovatory film making.  Journalism and its interaction with Cinema, it sounds like heresy, but TV journalism emerged from a langue of cinema. Its construct was curtailed for good reasons back then, but in a teleliterate era there is much that hampers television's construct.  And David's not alone in saying this. Unfortunately, many experts don't know which way to turn.
