Where do I deposit my records?

If you are a locally-based organisation such as a magistrates' court, prison, coroner or NHS body, you will be required to transfer some of your records for historical preservation to a 'place of deposit' – a local archive service appointed by The National Archives under the Public Records Act 1958.

Refer to Schedule 1 of the 2014 amendment to the Public Records Act 1958 if you aren’t sure if your organisation should be transferring records locally.

To locate your place of deposit and discover guidance for transferring your records, start by selecting your region to locate your organisation using the map or the buttons below.

If your organisation is not listed or your transfer arrangements differ from what is outlined here please contact Archives Sector Development at The National Archives.
