About this ebook

I look at my daughter. My darling girl. I remember her tiny hand in mine, her first smile. I recall her tears when she’d tumble over, healed instantly with a band-aid and a little kiss. I have to keep her safe. Even if it means someone else gets hurt…

In the pretty, privileged college town of Milford, New Hampshire, everyone is friendly, everything is safe. And on this cold autumn day, as red and yellow leaves begin to fall from the trees, and everyone wraps up for the first time, it would be easy to believe nothing bad could ever happen here.

Until a screech of tires is heard, a thud, a child’s scream. The crash that sees Jenna’s six-year-old daughter Amy Rose being hit by a car driven by seventeen-year-old Maddie.

Maddie’s mother, Ellen—a college professor with a warm, approachable reputation—insists it must have been an accident. Her daughter is always safe on the road—and she’s vulnerable herself.

But as Amy Rose lies unconscious in hospital, the town begins to take sides. With Ellen, who just wants to defend her daughter. Or with Jenna, a single mother with a past, whose child hovers between life and death…

The truth is that both mothers have secrets they’re trying to keep. And, with Amy Rose’s life hanging in the balance, one of them will stop at nothing to protect the person she loves—her daughter.

An incredible, powerfully emotional and heartbreaking read, with a dilemma that will make everyone wonder what they would do, in either mother’s shoes. Perfect for fans of Jodi Picoult, Jojo Moyes and Diane Chamberlain.

My Review: Warning, you will need a box of tissues by your side to get through this book!!!!! I loved, loved, loved this book. It was a real tear jerker. Question was when was I ever going to stop crying. My husband even asked me if something terrible had happened and I had to explain it was just my book. If you ever read a Kate Hewitt book then you know this reaction is a common one and to not be alarmed. I want to start off by saying how much I loved this book. Kate Hewitt books are always so great. She deals with hard to discuss topics and really messes with your emotions. One minute your happy and then the next minute you are so very sad. I loved each and every character in this book. Every single one of them had a flaw and that rings true to real life. No one is perfect. It is how you handle that flaw and turn it around to do some good positive things in your life. This was a hard, sad subject to tackle. This situation could happen to anyone not just a teen who doesn’t have their license for that long. That’s what I love about this story that it’s so relatable to life. You never know what life is going to throw at you. It’s how you make it out and through the other side that is going to determine your fate. This book really got me thinking and taught me to cherish every moment as anything can happen. Thanks Kate Hewitt for another awesome book. I can’t wait for your next one. Lastly, the characters, plot, and the ending of this book made this an easy and fast read. I would definitely recommend this book and happily give it 5 Hearts❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

The worst imaginable happens to two mothers. On mother’s daughter hit the other mother’s daughter with her car, putting the young girl in a coma. This book has a lot of tiggers, self starvation, suicide, poor upbringing of children. Just something to be aware of. This is a heavy book because of all the topics but at the heart is a mother’s love for her child.

A heartbreaking and emotional story about two mothers linked by tragedy; Jenna, whose little girl Amy Rose is in a coma after being hit by a car, and Ellen, whose daughter Maddie was driving that car. As Amy Rose clings to life and Maddie becomes more withdrawn and evasive about the accident, both mothers are driven by the innate need to protect their daughters. As a mother, this book packed an emotional punch and had me wondering what I would do in the same circumstances. Jenna and Ellen are both beautifully characterized, flawed but loving, and it’s easy to understand their motivations even when you don’t agree with their actions. Highly recommended for fans of women’s fiction featuring moral dilemmas, a la Jodi Picoult.
