Sometimes, the most perfect families are hiding the most terrible secrets. How well do you know the people next door…?

Everybody wants to live on Hogarth Street, the pretty, tree-lined avenue with its white houses. The new family, the Wests, are a perfect fit. Katherine and John seem so in love and their gorgeous five-year-old twins race screeching around their beautiful emerald-green lawn.

But soon people start to notice: why don’t they join backyard barbecues? Why do they brush away offers to babysit? Why, when you knock at the door, do they shut you out, rather than inviting you in?

Every family has secrets, and on the hottest day of the year, the truth is about to come out. As a tragedy unfolds behind closed doors, the dawn chorus is split by the wail of sirens. And one by one the families who tried so hard to welcome the Wests begin to realise: Hogarth Street will never be the same again.

A completely gripping, twist-packed psychological thriller, perfect for fans of Liane Moriarty, Sally Hepworth and Lisa Jewell.

My Review: Wow, I loved this one so much. This was the best Nicole Trope book yet. A whole box of tissues were gone in just a few hours. It was so intense that I was sit at the edge of my seat the whole time. I couldn’t put this one down for the the life of me. No bathroom breaks at all for me. Ok, let’s talk about this book a little bit. In the United States we had a show called What Would You Do? This is exactly how I would describe this book. There was an awful event happening in a quiet neighborhood and decisions needed to made on whether or not to get involved. They had to decide what would be the right thing to do? I loved this about the book. Now on that my favorite character of the book. I loved Logan for so many reasons but the main one was that he was so brave. Logan had a past and pushed past that to help someone in need. He didn’t know if that past was going to catch up to him and get him in trouble again but chose the right thing to do anyway. Next up is the story. The blurb did not say it all when you read it. In fact you knew almost nothing about the book. I had no clue what I was really get into with this book but loved the way it turned out. It actually made it better that I had no clue what was going to happen. Now let’s talk about that ending. That ending really came full circle for me. All the loose ends were wrapped up so nice. I never had a book wrap up so tight before. There were no questions that were left unanswered. Nicole Trope this was by far the best book you written yet. Please don’t stop writing and I look forward to your next one. Between the plot, characters and all the twists in this book it made it an easy and fast read. I would definitely recommend it and happily give it 5 Hearts❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Hogarth Street sounds like the perfect suburban dream to call home and raise your family. What could possibly be amiss in such a beautiful seemingly safe neighbourhood made up of wonderful families who love to share some downtime together and support each other when they are in need. So what could be possibly be wrong with the Wests? Are they just in need of some neighbourhood support, that they are hesitant to accept, or is something more sinister lurking among the shade of the trees on beautiful Hogarth Street. Struth! What a bloody ripper of a read this is! Nicole Trope has crafted a thrilling read set on a blazing hot summer’s day in Sydney where gunshots open the story in the home of the Wests. From there the story is told over a seven hour period from the points of view of Katherine West, delivery driver Logan, neighbour Gladys and the person wielding the gun. The use of the heat creates a stifling and claustrophobic atmosphere in the Wests home as the family is held at gunpoint and even though Australia is in the midsts of Winter, I found myself many times in a sweat unable to catch my breath as the tension and suspense drips off the page and is ramped up with each chapter. The Family Across the Street is a compelling tale that gets the heart racing! It has been masterfully executed, has a great cast of characters and with a thrilling yet emotional twist, this book is just the whole package. My first book by Nicole Trope, it will most definitely not be my last. A gifted storyteller that I look forward to reading more from.

It's supposed to be a safe neighborhood. It's supposed to be a place where you know all your neighbors and they know you. It's supposed to be a really nice place to raise children. This is a story about a normal family, Katherine and Josh, happily married, parents to young twins. But every family has secrets. Gladys is the neighborhood watch dog. She notices everything. One morning she sees that the twins have not been taken to school that morning. All the blinds are closed, which is something Katherine does first thing every morning. She goes next door thinking that one of them might be sick. Funnily .... Katherine does not let her into the house. Earlier that morning, a delivery driver tried to leave a package. The woman requests that he put the package on the porch and leave. He wants her to sign for it ... she refuses and shuts the door. Strange, he thinks. Hours later police have been called ... multiple gun shots have been heard. No one is safe. This intriguing story has twists and turns that seem to creep into being. It's well written, a real page turner. I couldn't put it down and read it in two sittings. The angst, the tension, the fear, the foreboding is palpable. The characters are unforgettable. Many thanks to the author / Bookouture / Netgalley for the digital copy of this psychological thriller. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
