An evening with Roger McGough - Safety in Numbers

‘The godfather of modern British poetry’ Metro

Roger McGough is the author of over a hundred books of poetry for adults and children and host of the long running Radio 4 show Poetry Please. We're thrilled to welcome him to The Hive to read from his latest collection. There will be a Q & A and booksigning after the event.

Safety in Numbers is a new collection from the nation’s favourite poet. Traversing rocky terrain with the assurance of a poetry rover on Mars, McGough brings down to earth the strangeness of a time on hold: staycations, adultery in lockdown, ghosts and gamblers, as well as playful adviceWith the gift of many tongues, playful, surreal and tender, McGough ‘a trickster you can trust’ reveals the telling moments of our lives.

What will we have learned from stillness and silence?
From sharing, not taking? Waiting not pushing?
Whispering not shouting? Dawdling not rushing?

Roger is President of the Poetry Society and he has been honoured with a CBE for services to literature, and the Freedom of the City of Liverpool. The Scaffold, GRIMMS, The Mersey Sound with Adrian Henri & Brian Patten, his Molière adaptations with English Touring Theatre… the beat goes on.
