This campaign has now closed

Everyone has the right to a stable home, but Westminster consistently has the highest number of people sleeping rough in the UK. Due to the pandemic, many people have lost their job. This Christmas and New Year we will help our clients find sustainable accommodation and a place to call home.

    Situation

More people are street homeless in Westminster than in any other UK borough. During the pandemic, we helped people move away from the streets into emergency accommodation and the numbers greatly reduced. However, the problem is still persistent and people in accommodation need ongoing support to remain off the street. There are also many people losing their jobs and unable to pay rent. Even a short period of rough sleeping can lead to deterioration of mental health and longer-term homelessness.

    Solution

We will welcome those who are or at risk of homelessness into our centre. We will contact those on the street through outreach work. Our approach to those who are or are about to be made homeless will be to offer immediate short-term accommodation. Longer term housing advice and support into accommodation combined with other specialist support – medical, mental health, alcohol and substance misuse and benefits advice will give clients the best chance of ending their homelessness for good.
