New transmission planning report published

Ministry of Power publishes transmission system roadmap for integration of 500+ GW of non-fossil capacity installed by 2030. The roadmap includes transmission infrastructure plans for the evacuation of 10 GW of offshore wind capacity.

On 7th December 2022, the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) under the Ministry of Power India published the report “Transmission System for Integration of over 500 GW RE Capacity by 2030”. The report portrays the broad transmission system roadmap for reliable integration of 537 GW non-fossil / RE capacity by the year 2030.

The plans include the transmission system and infrastructure required for evacuation of 10 GW offshore wind located in Gujarat and Tamil Nadu. The proposal envisages commissioning of offshore wind transmission lines in two phases of 2 GW (by December 2027) and 3 GW (December 2030) for each state, and outlines a tentative cost of construction for the offshore wind specific transmission infrastructure as Rs. 28,100 crore ($340 million).
