HQAL – Sunday 14th April 24

Hello Everybody

I have managed quite a bit of sewing on the actual red work section of this quilt. I have finished the June block and have just started the July block. However, I have also finished sewing together the pieced blocks for this quilt.

Here is a photo of the finished blocks – Oct and Nov (with the poppy)

SAL – Sunday 7th April 2024

Hello Everyone

Hope you are well, sorry to see Helen go and see you again soon.

(Skip next paragraph if you just want to see photos).

I have struggled these past three weeks to get some sewing done on my chosen project. My sewing time has been taken up visiting my mum in hospital as she has recently been diagnosed with Bowel Cancer and has been rushed in urgently to have the tumour removed. The doctor is optimistic in the fact of removing everything but I’m sure they might need to do another scan to check. So at present no chemo or radiotherapy. Back home now and visiting her there. My two brothers live at home so that takes some of the stress away- they can cook and clean ( mum made sure we could all look after ourselves from an early age), and I provide the emotional support and a woman’s touch. Lots of cuddles and tears needed in the beginning but she is fighting head-on. Feeling a little stretched at the moment, as my husband who is older than me also needs my help in doing things around the garden, which due to the start of nicer weather has sprung into life. What a curveball !!

Sorry – onto sewing subject, here is where I was last time ….

Here is my small progress …

Please take a peek at the other members have achieved on their individual projects.

Take care

I have also made a start on the June Basket, and I am immensely pleased that I am now half way through these baskets. I only have two more patchwork blocks to finish and the whole year of those will be complete. The final thing will be to join these two sets together.

Here is June started

SAL – 25th Feb 24

Hi everyone

I am a bit late to the party this week. I haven’t actually started my new project yet but I have sorted the threads and prepped the aida in a hoop. I am stitching a Bothy Threads design which will be the first of four – they are the four seasons. They are like blackwork but using coloured threads instead but the idea is the same, Here are some photo of the finished piece.

Sorry photo not very good in this light.

So that is me this week, why not grab a cuppa and peruse the names listed below and see how they have fared these past three weeks.

Friday update

Hi everyone

I just wanted to update about the grey quilt, I found it difficult to line everything up, just not make it work so have changed the pattern to a chevron design, see photo. It still showcases the William Morris fabric well.

The only block I might move is the bottom left – which would mean the whole line moves left one block and the removed block would be on the right end instead. What do you think?

Friday Fun Day

Hello my fellow stitchery friends,

I have been busy beavering away at all my existing projects, and some unexpected new ones. I like to juggle things. So one of the projects that I have started is my Birds of a Feather Quilt – another Gail Pan Design, and I have prepared the pieces and have two blocks made which are 5 1/4″ finished size. My plan is to have one columns of pieced blocks either side of the panel which I am busy quilting at the moment. (Hopefully the measurements are correct.) Then I will frame it with two borders – so hope it turns out quickly. My idea is to use a feather stencil over the borders, and maybe just shadow stitch in the pieced blocks.

Here are the pieced blocks and panel design –

and the stencil (free with Today’s Quilter magazine)

The 2 smaller pictures are from Today’s Quilter issue 110

You may have read on another blog that I have finished the top part of my Memory Quilt and have fixed the wording I wanted in the border and making the pieced binding material. This is now joining my ever increasing pile of quilts needing quilting. With the left overs I practised another block design which I had learned online from Kate of “The Last Homely House” on her YouTube channel. She is really lovely and charming, explains how to do things and laughs a lot. This was the resulting pattern, it may not be perfect but it is a scrappy quilt. I was chuffed with my effort. They will be 3″ blocks when completed in between the two zigzag lines top and bottom.

Feeling confident I have made two more quilts using the block mentioned above, but in two different ways. It was fun to play around with the blocks and I wanted them to be deliberately different. They are hand machined on my old Singer Hand Cranked sewing machine. It runs like a dream, I love it so much!

Firstly a purple quilt (I love purple), Not completed yet!

It will be a small square lap type quilt.

Secondly, a blue/grey striped quilt using my William Morris – Morning Mist Fat Quarter Bundle fabric, I hope the design does the fabric proud.

It is quite a subtle colouring. I need to think about the border for this. May have to get some more plain fabric.

Well that is all for this post, sorry it is a bit long and photo heavy.

Enjoy the weekend!
