A Short Guide to writing your Hot Poets' Haiku:

1)  Go to www.hotpoets.org and take inspiration from the  ‘Pathway of the Week’.

2)  Consider any unusual, powerful or radical ideas you  have experienced, heard, invented or imagined relating  to that pathway.

3)  Allow your mind to follow that idea into the future. 

4)  Imagine / picture the world if that idea succeeded and flourished.

5)  Consider what that would look like / how you would feel? 

6)  Using few words, capture that future idea and your feelings.

7)  Arrange them in haiku form: 3 lines, 5,7,5 syllables

8)  Count the syllables on your fingers if it helps! 

9)  Don’t rhyme

How to take a  Hot Poets: Haiku Future Photograph:

1)  Go to www.hotpoets.org to find out about the ‘Pathway of the Week’.

2)  Have a think about amazing projects, activities, future thinking that fits the theme... preferably something  currently happening in your town, city, community, window box etc... What jaw dropping sites or inventions can you share with us?

3)  Capture your subject in a photograph. Don’t forget to ask for permission, especially if there are children or private property in the photo.

4)  Submissions need to be:

• Landscape photos (hold your phone like a mouth, not a nose). 
• High quality, well framed, not pixelated or distorted.
• Where possible 16:9, 300dpi and at least 1 megabyte (big but not HUGE)

5)  Make sure you include lots of sky or solid background colour in the frame, so our designers can fit a haiku on the image.

6) Label your subject correctly with: 

• The photographer’s name
• The name of the thing,  project, person or  place
• It’s location
• The subject’s web address (for people to find out more)
• Any permissions we might need to use the photo

7) Submit as a jpg or png

8) Don’t submit a haiku with the photo. We like to mix and match different words and images.
