Ilkley Pride and Diversity Community pride Flag

Ilkley Pride & Diversity Group (IP@D) are working together on a community Pride flag and need your help! They are inviting people across the town to contribute to a patchwork flag, made from hundreds of colourful squares that celebrate all aspects of the LGBTQ+ community.

The Progress Flag design represents everyone and truly reflects our outlook,” said Ilkley Pride & Diversity Group chair David Shaw MBE. “Pride celebrates inclusivity and acceptance. We want friends and allies to take part, as well as members of the LGBTQ+ community in Ilkley and surrounding villages.”

Here is the Sew Keighley Pride flag the Keighley community made isn't it wonderful - we are aiming for one just like this:

The FINAL DAY for delivering your squares is the 5th June 2022

Making a Patch

Choosing one of the 11 colours in the Progress Pride design, you can make an individual textile patch with names and stories celebrating what makes you unique/ someone that inspires you. You might want to shout out a member of your family for coming out, or a celebrity who has helped you on your (LGBTQ+) journey. Perhaps an organisation helped you and your friends accept your identities, or you want to celebrate your own story!

We are also looking for photographs of your diversity inspirations to print onto Fabric. A person, building or event you want to celebrate.

You can put your name on the patch if you like, but it's up to you.

Here is the patch template for White, Pink, Pale blue, Brown, Black - you will need to draw your own.

Here is the patch template for Red, Orange, Yellow Dark Blue, Green and Purple - you will need to draw your own.

Who can I celebrate in my patch? The flag represents the whole of Ilkley's diverse community. Pick someone who has inspired you or you admire. This is a public flag, make sure you ask people is you have something that identifies them

How can I make my patch? be creative! It can be simple or you might have lots of sewing skills to show off. You might want to use applique or embroidery but no matter what you use have fun.

Can you donate material? We need clean non-stretch fabrics in the rainbow colours. Please leave material in the box outside 30 Nelson Rd Ilkley LS29 8HN.
