Teachers Perceptions of the teaching of computing for children with SEND
The aim of the study is to gather in-depth information regarding some of the key issues and debates that teachers in special school’s face in order to teach the computing curriculum. The study will focus on teachers and school staff perspectives so children will not be directly included within the research. The research proposal aims to achieve this through conducting a questionnaire and then possibly interviewing 2-3 participants from the questionnaire.  

This research will be used for submission for a university assessment (PGCE top-up), with a possibility of this research being published after the submission date. The data will only be used for educational research purposed with aim to support teachers more effectively with regards to computing.This research has been inspired by some of the work carried out by Catherine Elliott in 2018  http://sheffieldclc.net/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/Computing-in-Special-Educational-Needs-Settings-CElliott-2.pdf 


This questionnaire will focus on four main sections:

1- Agreement to take part in the questionnaire.
2- Background about your role in special education.
3- Your thoughts on teaching computing.
4- Computer Science
5- Teaching resources.

The data from the questionnaire will be stored on an encrypted, password protected device and will be destroyed once the data is no longer needed.

The study will conducted according to the BERA guidelines and the research will take place under the supervision of Dr Helen Caldwell, the University of Northampton.
