Future Geothermal Power & Heat sites

Introduction

Cornwall is sat above an incredible geothermal resource and Geothermal Engineering Ltd (GEL) have been working hard to identify new sites that would allow us to tap into this resource for clean, renewable, 24/7 power generation.
GEL appreciates that the prospect of having a new renewable source of electricity and heat close to where you live or work can be daunting. Below you will find information about geothermal power and heat production and the process that will be undertaken before a powerplant is installed.
GEL has many years of experience in the renewable energy and drilling industry and will always be happy to answer questions. Please reach out via the Contact Us page if you’d like to know more.

As a Cornish company, GEL are excited to be able to build this brand-new industry in Cornwall. It will bring much-needed investment to the Duchy, alongside the creation of direct and indirect green jobs. We recently achieved planning permission for two sites, located at Penhallow and Manhay, and are in the process of achieving planning permission for two additional sites, located close to Tolvaddon and Mawla.

As more project sites are entered into the planning process, we will add updates to this page.

Planning permission

Before work can start on a new development, GEL must achieve planning permission from the local authority. You can find information about the standard planning process which GEL are following on Cornwall Council’s website, along with the applications for all of our proposed new geothermal developments which are online. The applications contain a wealth of information including a project description, site plans, environmental and ecological surveys, noise assessment, climate change report, landscape and visual impact appraisal and many others.

If you’d like to know more about our developments, please read the FAQ section of our website or send us a message via the Contact Us form.
