A Vanuatu judge says as a result of recent court rulings, public office holders are learning that they must be accountable.

Judge Oliver Saksak says convictions of MPs for charges relating to bribery and conspiracy since 2015, coupled with jail sentences, have helped set a standard of accountability.

The judge was in New Zealand last week leading a Vanuatu parole board team for an exchange of ideas and professional development with local counterparts.

As chairman of the parole board, Justice Saksak told Johnny Blades that he'd like to see it better resourced.
