Planning permission approved for community facilities

The Fleetwood Trust is delighted to share the news that our planning application for change of use to part of the ground floor at Fleetwood Hospital has been approved by Wyre Borough Council.

The successful application includes creating spaces for community use centering around a large café hub at its core as well as a teaching kitchen, co-working spaces, multi-purpose studios, meeting rooms and offices. The proposal also includes repurposing part of the existing car park as a new community garden. Structural work will involve alterations to some of the window and door openings including the creation of a new entrance on North Albert Street.

Charley Wilkinson, Chief Executive of the Fleetwood Trust said, “This is an important and essential stage in the journey to create a vibrant and much-need facility for the local community. With planning permission approved we can continue our positive discussions with funders and partners and prepare for the next phase of the project.”

The Prince’s Foundation worked with the Fleetwood Trust to prepare the successful planning application and will continue to support the project. Sarah Robinson, Senior Architect at The Prince’s Foundation, said: “The Fleetwood community can now look forward to the development of a valuable resource that will collectively offer opportunities and support for people of all ages. Congratulations to Charley and the Fleetwood Trust, who have shown such a great appetite and desire to ensure this development has taken an important step to becoming reality.”

Further details of the new facilities will be announced in due course. The Pantry and Blackpool, Fylde & Wyre Volunteer Centre are already based at the Fleetwood Hospital building, alongside NHS outpatient services.
