Dr Tim Lockie went to University College School in Hampstead before training to do medicine at Edinburgh University. During this time he undertook an intercalated degree in psychology (BSc) gaining First Class honours. After graduation, he worked at the Old Royal Infirmary in Edinburgh before moving to London for his specialist cardiology training at St Thomas’.

With an interest in ischaemic heart disease and re-perfusion he undertook a PhD at KCL, winning the Young Investigator Prize at SCMR in the United States. He then spent a year at the Academic Medical Centre in Amsterdam on a BHF/EAPCI training fellowship specialising in advanced percutaeous coronary interventions (PCI). He then completed his PCI training back at St. Thomas’ under the supervision of Professor Simon Redwood who is the current president of the British Coronary Intervention Society (BCIS). He is now working as a consultant cardiologist at the Royal Free.

He specialises in complex PCI, primary angioplasty for acute heart attacks, intravascular imaging and coronary physiology and has an ongoing interest in cardiovascular research being the principle site investigator for several large, multinational studies. In recognition of clinical and academic excellence Dr Lockie was recently elected a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology (FESC).
