Free parking concession for critical care workers to close in June
A scheme that was introduced at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic to provide NHS staff, health and social care workers and NHS volunteer responders with free parking, will close on 21 June 2021.
The Government Parking Pass Scheme for Critical Care Workers was introduced to support critical workers, particularly those who may have previously used public transport to get to work.
Following the announcement of the Government’s Roadmap out of Lockdown and easing of restrictions, which are expected to result in an increase in demand for parking at many locations, the paper passes originally intended for temporary use during the Covid 19 emergency response period will no longer be valid after 21st June 2021.
Critical care workers in Birmingham will be permitted to display their Covid 19 paper parking pass and benefit from free parking until the concession is withdrawn on 21 June 2021. They are encouraged to use car parks rather than on-street spaces which are primarily for short-stay parking.
The Covid 19 parking pass was based on an agreement between the Local Government Association (LGA) and the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG). As the economy reopens, MHCLG will be replacing the guidance on the gov.uk website to reflect the recommendation that paper passes will no longer be valid.
