Dear Friends,
Covid 19 safety
I met with the ministry team today to discuss how we should protect ourselves and one another against COVID while in the church building going forward. Today (Tuesday) the government COVID information tells us that infections here are higher than the national average and that the R number is 1.3-1.5. For this reason and, following helpful comments from many of you to the Church Wardens, we will proceed with caution and ask that:
- We continue to wear masks in church except when distance from and number of people mitigate the risk i.e visitors during the week when the building is empty, those setting up for a service before the congregation arrives
- We continue to respect people’s spaces which means we will continue with a socially distanced form of the Peace
- We begin to sing again, while wearing our masks
- We wait a little longer before reintroducing the common cup at communion and before restarting refreshments after the service
- We continue to provide sanitiser and ask people either to sign in for a service or use the QR code
Before we begin to suggest a further loosening of our practise we are looking to see what impact July 19th will have on national figures, and when the R number falls below 1 in our local area. I hope you will feel happy with this, feel free to speak to myself or the Church Wardens about any continuing concerns.
My retirement
I am relieved to tell you that the Pensions Board has accepted my application for early retirement because of ill health. My last Sunday of public ministry will be September 5th. Tom’s last Sunday in Sudbury will be September 12th. However, Rev Chris Eyden will be supporting you through the period before your new priest arrives in the Spring. I know you will give him every assistance. I will still be in Sudbury until the house in Sheffield is ready for Mum and I to move into. Remember, although I will no longer be your parish priest, I will still be your friend. Please pray for me and I will pray for you, confident that God is even now preparing the right person to answer the call to come to Sudbury as your priest.
Every blessing,
Cheryl
