It’s been a long slog for Britney Spears, but she’s just cemented why she’s the undeniable legend of 90s and 00s pop, as she finishes up her four-year Las Vegas residency with a massive New Years Eve show to end the year with a bang.

Performing her last show at Planet Hollywood as part of her Britney: Piece of Me set of shows, which was streamed live on New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest, she reminded us why our enduring love for Britney lives on.

Including a staggering (and most likely breathless) nine costume changes, she was well and truly in fine form – spawning a newfound respect for the Las Vegas residency and showing us it’s not for the washed up.

Mother-of-two Britney’s slot was no empty-seat snore-a-thon, with the show taking in more then US$100 million (£73.6 million) during its run that began in 2013.

She sung her sombre song Everytime in a set of giant angel wings, for Brit’s sake, and she also slayed her track Toxic.

She had a shaky start and some questionable dance moves as she made her return to the stage at the MTV VMAs in 2007, but now it’s like that period in her life never even happened as we move on from the clusterf*ck that was the mid-noughties.

Brit has kept the love of her fans and the industry at large when all could have been lost so very quickly, planting herself back in the consciousness of pop culture with the same fever she did in 1997.

After two decades, that’s why we still love her: we’re all about that never-quit attitude.

And now here’s hoping since she’s not performing a show a day, she’ll have more time for her boss Instagram account…
