PSA takes action against potentially misleading 118 marketing practices

28 November 2018

New Special conditions to prevent harm caused by potentially misleading advertising of premium rate Directory Enquiries services using inactive geographic numbers and to make prices clear to consumers before onward connection

The Phone-paid Services Authority (PSA) has today published a statement introducing two new Special conditions for Directory Enquiries services. These are aimed at preventing potentially misleading interactive voice response promotions being placed on inactive or otherwise unused geographic numbers and providing transparency around costs for onward connection.

The Special conditions also ensure that costs for onward connection are made clear upfront, giving consumers a reasonable amount of time to consider their decision before purchase.

The new Special conditions will come into effect on the 4th February 2019.
