The Rookie” has been renewed for Season 7 at ABC, Variety has learned.

Season 6 of the cop drama kicked off on Feb. 20, pushed from its usual fall start date by the strikes that shut down much of Hollywood in 2023. Per ABC, the Season 6 premiere has delivered 11.9 million viewers across all platforms in the Live+35 ratings, its best viewership since 2018. The premiere is also at a 2.9 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic.

Nathan Fillion leads the cast as John Nolan, who joined the LAPD in his 40s to become the oldest rookie in department history. The cast also includes Mekia Cox, Alyssa Diaz, Richard T. Jones, Melissa O’Neil, Eric Winter, Jenna Dewan, Shawn Ashmore, Tru Valentino, and Lisseth Chavez.

Alexi Hawley created the series and serves as executive producer and showrunner. Fillion also executive produces along with Mark Gordon, Michelle Chapman, Brynn Malone, Bill Norcross, and Jon Steinberg. Lionsgate Television is the lead studio and international distributor of the series. Lionsgate acquired the show upon the completion of their acquisition of eOne in late 2023. ABC Signature co-produces.

The official description for Season 6 states, “John Nolan, once the oldest rookie in the LAPD, has used his life experience, determination and sense of humor to keep up with rookies 20 years his junior. Nolan feels like it can’t get much better, now that his life with Bailey (Dewan) is moving forward, and he has chosen his career path. However, he and his team must grapple with the aftermath of their recent assaults before they can move forward.”

With this renewal, ABC has renewed most of its scripted lineup for the 2024-2025 season, while it was previously announced “The Good Doctor” and “Station 19” will end with their current seasons. The only shows still awaiting word are “The Conners” and “Not Dead Yet.” ABC has the show “High Potential” starring Kaitlin Olson set to go next season after it was originally ordered last year but pushed due to the strikes, as well as the recent straight-to-series order for “Dr. Odyssey” from Ryan Murphy.
