TAD TALK 2022

After pausing events due to COVID 19, we were excited to meet together in March 2022 at the Royal College of Physicians in Regents Park. The event was chaired by Natalie Balmain, the founder of Type 1 clothing co. We heard inspirational stories about living with diabetes and we were also treated to a cello recital from the talented Sophie Oliver. Our younger TADpole group created their own ‘Diabetes super heroes’ in a session run by artist Katie Lamb and were able to showcase their work at the end of the day.

Novo Nordisk has sponsored the venue and catering for this meeting, and provided logistical support

Abbott has sponsored the AV provision for this meeting.

TAD TALK 2019

The fourth TADtalk event was chaired by Joe Meade. Joe contributed to the TAD event previously as part of TADpole and he was an excellent host. In the morning, we had four inspiring speakers and in the afternoon we had an interview with actor James Norton and then a performance by Jade Byrne of her play ‘pricks’.

TADTALK 2018

In April we held our third TAD talk event at the Royal College of Physicians in Regents Park, London.

The session was chaired by Jen Grieves, a BBC digital producer, presenter, broadcaster and writer and a previous speaker in 2017 see here.

Jen also interviewed and chaired our young peoples panel where we learnt from some of the younger members of the diabetes community about how they live well with diabetes. These young speakers also took part in our second TADpole event, a collaboration with digibete to produce a video that could be shown to a young person who has just been diagnosed. Click here to learn more.

TAD TALK 2017

Our second TAD talk event was held in London in April 2017 with talks from six more inspirational speakers. This year we also hosted our first TADpole event for 8-12 year olds which ran in parallel to the TAD talks.

TAD talk 2017 was chaired by Stephen Dixon, a Sky news presenter who currently anchors the Sunrise breakfast programme. He’s been living with T1D for 25 years and is an advocate of self-management, tied in with the latest technology. Stephen sees living with T1D as a positive part of life and firmly believes in getting better results by working with it, rather than fighting against it.

The day started with an opening welcome address from Professor Sir Bruce Keogh who is NHS England’s Medical Director and professional lead for NHS doctors. He is responsible for promoting clinical leadership, quality and innovation. Formerly, Sir Bruce had a distinguished career in surgery. He has served as a Commissioner on the Commission for Health Improvement (CHI) and the Healthcare Commission and was knighted for services to medicine in 2003.

TAD TALK 2016

The first TAD talk was held in London in March 2016. We had seven fantastic speakers and the event was chaired by the BBC journalist and broadcaster Justin Webb who leads a successful career presenting the Today Programme on Radio Four. Justin has personal experience of caring for a family member with Type 1 diabetes. Seven years ago his son was diagnosed with T1D at the age of nine and Justin shared his experience from the parent’s perspective.
