In the Orbita’s performance “Motopoiesis” voices of the four poets – Semyon Khanin, Arturs Punte, Sergej Timofejev, Vladimir Svetlov – trigger electronic and mechanical noise-making mechanisms and further on sounds get processed through various audio effects. Thus the source of the sound is the tempo of the poetry and voice intonation.
Most of the sounds come from the system, created by Orbita that included electric motors, water pumps, fans, solenoids, electromagnets, electric bows etc. getting sounds out of strings, pipes, different surfaces and objects. Part of the sound is created on the spot during the performance in relation to the venue’s sound potential.
The video is closely related to the reading and sound created. On the work space there are several small video cameras that give an opportunity to see the visual projection on the screen showing exact source of the sound. On the frontline of the camera there is also a print of the text, thus naturally including translated poetry text in the video becoming both visual and informative material (subtitles).
In December 2021 in Sigulda, a small town near Latvian capital Riga, Orbita in a week time filmed and recorded 50 minute video documentation of the performance. The video is complemented with winter footage of what the surrounding area looked like these days. The stingy black and white graphics of the Latvian winter contrast with the noise variety of the sound of the performance.
Technical solution: Artūrs Punte, Jēkabs Voļatovskis & Vladislav Bogdanov (liepaja.tk).
