A Community Pharmacy in Clifton, York
A Community Pharmacy in Clifton, York
Why this petition matters
I am a resident of Clifton, and I know the difficulty our community faces due to the lack of a local pharmacy.
Since the closure of Lloyds Pharmacy on Intake Avenue and the Boots Pharmacy on Clifton Green this February, there is a severe gap in community pharmacy services for Clifton residents. This creates an unfair delivery of service to Clifton residents compared to the rest of the city.
Our community is home to many elderly and vulnerable individuals who would benefit from a local pharmacy. According to NHS England, over 1.6 million people in England live more than a mile away from a pharmacy (source: NHS England). The absence of a local pharmacy forces us to rely on distant pharmacies or online services which often results in delays and difficulties.
A community pharmacy would not only provide easy access to prescription medications but also offer health advice and support that is crucial for our wellbeing. Pharmacies play an integral role in public health by providing immunisations, conducting health screenings and offering advice on healthy living (source: Royal Pharmaceutical Society).
We believe that establishing a community pharmacy in Clifton will greatly improve healthcare accessibility for all residents while reducing pressure on other healthcare services.
Please join us in requesting that the City of York Council makes an urgent case for the NHS Humber & North Yorkshire Integrated Care Board to restore community pharmacy services in Clifton Ward at the earliest opportunity, to ensure important access to public services for people in Clifton.
