This policy brief is the first of a series of two policy briefs which are based on the results of the NORDCARE survey in Austria. The NORDCARE study aimed to investigate the working conditions of the long-term care (LTC) workforce in the home care and residential care sector in three regions (Vienna, Upper Austria, Salzburg) in Austria. Given a considerable lack of information on basic information of the workers in this sector (e.g. age, qualifications), this policy brief focuses on the profile of long-term care workers including information on demographic characteristics of LTC workers, characteristics of clients and staffing ratios, daily working tasks, the reconciliation of work and family and a comparison of the main characteristics of LTC employment between Austria, Germany and Sweden.
