Which course should I enroll my child on?

Essentially the idea is that young boys and girls start at the bottom and move their way up. However the idea is definitely NOT to have someone waste their time completing a course full of information that they are very familiar with, just so that they can obtain a certificate at the end. If your son or daughter is an absolute beginner then Level 1 is the best place to start them, but if they already know the rules and can play, then they might be ready for level 2. Many parents are unsure as to where to start their child off particularly if they don’t play the game themselves. Don’t worry though, all newbies who have signed up for level 1 or 2 (of which the cost is the same) are assessed in the first morning and if appropriate transferred to the higher/lower group.

Note that just as we don’t want to waste anyone’s time, we also don’t want juniors sat in a group where everything is going above their ahead, increasing anxiety and reducing enjoyment.

Please note the following extract from our child protection policy which can be found in full at http://www.kjca.org/site/page?view=protectionpolicy

Parents/guardians (“Parents”) are entirely responsible for the supervision of their children for the full duration of all KJCA events, except in the three circumstances listed below. Parents may, except in the case of under 8s, at their total discretion, elect to delegate that responsibility to another adult(s) but remain entirely responsible for the welfare of their children. Parents may, except in the case of under 8s, at their total discretion, elect to share that responsibility with another adult(s) but remain entirely responsible for the welfare of their children. Parents may not delegate or share that responsibility with another adult(s) in the case of children aged under 8. The KJCA and its officers are not able to monitor whether parents discharge their responsibility, as outlined above, or not and are not responsible for carrying out any such monitoring. The KJCA and its officers are not able to and will not act ‘in loco parentis’ in respect of parents’ responsibility, as outlined above, except in the following three listed circumstances:

1 while juniors are playing a match in a KJCA tournament in the tournament room(s);

2 while juniors are attending a coaching session at a KJCA coaching day; and

3. if their parents are not attending a KJCA team event, while juniors are attending a KJCA team event or are travelling to or from a KJCA team event as part of an official KJCA team group travel party. Car-sharing arrangements to or from a KJCA team event are private arrangements between the parents concerned and are specifically excluded.
