Sensory Support Services (Belfast Trust)

The Sensory Support Team provides social work, technical aid and rehabilitation for people aged 18 and over who have:

• hearing loss (deaf)
• sight loss (blind)
• dual sensory loss
• We also provide mobility training for children aged under 18.

We offer a range of services including:

• individual assessment risk assessment social work support for service users and families assessment and supply of specialist equipment
• independent living skills assessment and training if required
• mobility and orientation assessments for independent travel
• information and advice for service users and their families
• sign language communication support for deaf service users
• arranging registration for service users with sight loss
• support at the low vision clinic
• support at the audiology clinic
• signposting to voluntary agencies or other Trust services where appropriate
• sensory disability awareness training for healthcare professionals and others involved with service users

All of the above services can be provided in a service user’s home, school or workplace.
