Devon Song Festival 2017

Donation protected
The Devon Song Festival was launched in 2016 with a sell-out concert at Aeolian Court. We were blown away by the success of the event and we're pleased to say that we have plans to expand the festival across two concerts in 2017.

Provisional dates 22nd & 23rd of April 2017 in Chudleigh and Topsham.

BUT WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT!

Devon Song Festival exists to bring fantastic young singers from London's top music colleges to explore and perform the song repertoire in the beautiful countryside of Devon. Last year's programme A Woman's Life and Love featured excerpts from Schumann’s ‘Frauenliebe und leben’ interspersed with some of Brahms’ most beautiful songs, a number of duets by the two composers, and letters and poetry illuminating the complicated relationship between Robert Schumann, his wife Clara, and her great admirer, Johannes Brahms.

We're looking for supporters to sign up as friends of the festival in order to ensure we can keep developing exciting new programmes and bring outstanding young performers to provide fantastic concerts in Devon.

About Us

Originally from Devon, founder and artistic director Natalie Burch (pianist) is thrilled to be exploring her favourite music on home turf whilst introducing some of London's best young singers to local audiences.
Natalie gained her Masters in Performance with distinction from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama where she is now Guildhall Artist Fellow of accompaniment. She was jointly awarded the accompanist prize at the Maureen Lehane awards held at the Wigmore Hall and was recently given a Help Musicians Career Development Bursary to study on the prestigious Oxford Lieder Mastercourse led by Wolfgang Holzmair.
Having recently performed Brahms' Liebeslieder and Stepen Hough's Other Love Songs at Wigmore Hall, Natalie is looking forward to exploring more song repertoire for multiple voices and piano accompaniment at the festival.

Co-artistic director James Way (tenor) recently made his proms debut as a soloist in Vaughan Williams Serenade to Music with the BBC Symphony Orchestra  the BBC Last Night of the Proms. He continues his studies at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama and loves nothing more than a a recital in the countryside. Recent highlights include a recital with Natalie Burch for Sarah Walker CBE, Britten Canticle I at the Barbican and Brahms Liebeslieder and Stephen Hough Other Love Songs at the Wigmore Hall.
