THE 2021 Galoshans Festival has been in full swing for almost one week and with Halloween weekend approaching, it’s time for the local community to get excited.

If you’re out shopping this weekend, be sure to keep an eye out for The Turles and The Concreatures, pictured, who will be roaming the streets of Greenock town centre – performances brought to you by Surge Scotland and Kayos Theatre Company.

The Turtles will be returning items they have found in the sea back to humans on land at The Beacon Arts Centre from 2.30 to 3pm and in Greenock town centre from 3.30 to 4.15pm on Saturday.

The Concreatures, known for their love of architecture and dance battles, will be performing in Greenock town centre this Sunday from 2 to 2.40pm and 3.30 to 4.10pm.

There are plenty of things for the whole community to get involved in, such as the Inverclyde Libraries craft event.

Readers can collect a craft bag from your nearest Inverclyde library and make a spooky Halloween creation using recycled materials.

There will also be a showcase of water-activated street art in various locations around Greenock this weekend, recycle upcycle workshops to create Halloween costumes, Junk Journal exhibitions in various Inverclyde libraries and many more events to get involved in.

Later in the festival, Willie Sutherland presents work inspired by environmental themes from George Wyllie’s ‘Christmas Day Down a Goldmine’, alongside original works by the acclaimed artists.

This timely jewel of an exhibition, presented during COP26, invites us to question our treatment of the planet in this time of climate emergency.

The exhibition will take place from November 6 to 12 at RIG Arts Studio in the Tobacco Warehouse.
