Arsenal told Mikel Arteta will secure the transfer of ‘big players’ like Declan Rice

Jay Bothroyd says Mikel Arteta is going to be backed during the summer transfer window and ‘big players’ such as West Ham United’s Declan Rice are being talked about for a move to Arsenal.

The former Hale-End star added that, whilst those types of players will arrive for Arsenal next season, their Premier League title rivals Manchester City already have that at their disposal.

From student to rival. Mikel Arteta is cooking in north London and Pep Guardiola must have mixed feelings.

On one hand, he will be delighted that Arteta is working wonders at a club that was on its knees when he first joined the club from his backroom staff at Manchester City.

But, on the other hand, Guardiola is possibly going to lose out on history and that’s winning three Premier League titles on the bounce, only Manchester United have done that in the past.

Either way, if Arsenal win the title, then it will only spice things up further for next season and Bothroyd spoke about Rice’s possible arrival, as he told Sky Sports News (08/03/23).

“They have already said that he has money to spend in the summer to add to the squad,” said Bothroyd. “Big players are being talked about. The Declan Rice’s of this world is one.

“You look at Manchester City and they have that already. You take out Kevin de Bruyne, then you bring in Foden. You take out Grealish and you are bringing in Mahrez. They have got such, such good players and a top squad, so it’s going to go right to the wire. I think it will go to the final few games.”

MAN CITY WON’T BE SELLING PLAYERS TO ARSENAL ANYMORE

Whatever happens in the summer, you can bet your bottom dollar, not a single player will swap the Etihad for the Emirates.

Oleksandr Zinchenko and Gabriel Jesus did that during the summer transfer window and the multiple title-winners have made a huge difference, both on and off the field.

Did Man City underestimate Arsenal? You would have to think they did because, after narrowly missing out on Champions League football last season, did anyone really expect the Gunners to be in this position?
