🎉 On the 14th April, we celebrated the 10th Anniversary of the #OPIC (3rd Optional Protocol to the #CRC on a Communications Procedure) ! Last week, The Leiden Children's Rights Observatory at Leiden University welcomed distinguished guests from all over the world to reflect on the first 10 years of #OPIC and access to #justice for Children. Professor Ann Skelton, current #CRC Chair Committee, gave the inaugural address. The Child Friendly Justice European Network (CFJ-EN) also gathered with academia to discuss its key priorities in promoting children's rights across European justice systems. Many other #CRC members joined the conference including Benoît Van Keirsbilck, Mikiko Otani, AYOUBI-IDRISSI Hynd Hynd & #BragiGudbrandsson. Our Director Alex Conte was a guest speaker and explained the role of #civilsociety enhancing #pathways for access to justice for children through OPIC. He emphasised the importance of ratifiying OPIC and enhancing its effective use. We should continue our efforts in raising #awareness to children about their #humanrights to seek #remedies and reparation through OPIC. 💪 Thank you Ton Liefaard for organising and moderating such an interesting conference! 🙌 Finally our Director was also invited at a High-Level Dialogue as part of the 10th Anniversary celebrations organised by Child Nepal. 😎 The dialogue served as a vital platform for #promoting #children #rights & strenghtening #childprotection mechanisms in Nepal 🔔 🔗 If you would like to read more about OPIC, check out our dedicated webpage: https://lnkd.in/dRsciDx5 #childfriendlyjustice

📣 Child Rights Connect expresses its deep concern over the announcement last week indicating the cancellation of the CRC Committee's 98th Pre-session due to the UN liquidity crisis. This has a direct negative impact on the Committee's ability to carry out its core work and interact with civil society and children in the review cycle of States. We call on States to comply with their obligations under the Convention and pay their fees to the UN in full and without delay.
