About us
At least 5.4million children are currently separated from their families, shut away inside orphanages, even though 80% are not orphans. Orphanages expose these children to abuse, trafficking, and physical and psychological trauma that can last a lifetime. By working with families, communities, local authorities and governments, we’ve helped get thousands of children out of orphanages and back to family. And we also work to prevent the conditions that lead to family separation in the first place. Because a child needs more than food and shelter to survive. They need love, nurture and protection to really thrive – and that all comes Back to Family.

"Either I leave my child in an orphanage, or we both starve..." In Moldova, our teams have opened 10 Social Creches. These Creches have supported 577 children to stay where they belong. At home. Many parents in Moldova feel pressured to move across the border to earn money, money they can't earn in Moldova. They leave their children in orphanages, hoping one day they'll be able to take them home again. Often that day never comes. And that's where our Social Creches have been able to help. Parents who previously would have been forced to choose between food and family, finally have another option. Children are able to attend the Creche in the morning and then be picked up at the end of the day. For free. These kinds of Social Creches are just one of the ways your donations are helping families and children in Moldova. Together, we're getting children #BackToFamily https://lnkd.in/g9iEgikf #ChildProtection #LovingFamilies #Orphanages #Fundraising

Today and tomorrow, we’re participating in the #2024UNCSC in Nairobi Still to this day, millions of children grow up in harmful institutions, without the love and protection of a family, As important discussions start on how the United Nations and world leaders can commit to more sustainable and fair societies, it’s crucial for decision-makers to take a stand for rights of children deprived of family care. Today and tomorrow, and in the lead up to the #SummitOfTheFuture, we will exchange with key stakeholders on our goals for the Summit of the Future, and how to secure the needed commitments to eradicate child institutionalisation #BackToFamily #OurCommonFuture #WorldLeaders #UN #Nairobi

What she witnessed made her QUIT. Kseniia* worked inside an orphanage for babies in Ukraine, and nothing could have prepared her for the horrors she would witness during her time there. No love. No affection. No care. For five years, she saw children in the orphanage endure violence, abuse and neglect. Children hit on their hands, legs and backsides with rods. Held under cold water for crying. Turned upside down and shook. Kseniia tried so hard to speak up about the misconduct, but she was silenced every time. Now, she's left her job and is speaking OUT and doing everything she can to help children get #BackToFamily Read Kseniia's exclusive testimony at https://lnkd.in/eFvKeu-x *Names changed to protect identity #BackToFamily

We're utterly delighted to be nominated for the upcoming Better Society Awards alongside our wonderful partner St. James’s Place Charitable Foundation. 💛 Since our partnership with St. James’s Place began in 2000, the Foundation has stood alongside us as we have closed over 160 orphanages. SJP’s support has directly supported over 10,000 children in Ukraine, Rwanda, Bulgaria and beyond and has enabled us to deliver training to thousands of childcare professionals too. We are enormously privileged to have built such an important and long-standing partnership that has truly changed the world for children, and we're honoured to be recognised by the Better Society Awards panel! 🏆

“It doesn’t matter how many toys there are, how clean it is, or how well the children are fed. They’ll still lack the support that exists in any family where children are loved.” Kseniia* is a nurse and former orphanage worker from Ukraine. After working inside a baby home for five years, she’s become a whistleblower, committed to sharing the truths about orphanages and calling time on the institutionalisation of children. “When they were shouting or crying too much, the children were put under cold water. Or, they would turn the kids upside down, hold them by their feet and shake them, this made me so angry, so I quit.” Thanks to brave advocates like Kseniia, our team in Ukraine is working with the government to close down orphanages. We won't stop until every child in Ukraine gets #BackToFamily. Read Kseniia's story here: https://loom.ly/QkpUq5s *Names changed to protect identity

Over 100,000 children in Ukraine live inside orphanages. 85% have parents they could be with, with the right support. But instead of growing up at home, they’re locked away. And parents end up separated from their children. But it's not just in Ukraine that this is a problem. Around the world, children growing up in orphanages are experiencing violence, abuse and neglect. The traumas they face can last a lifetime. That's why it's our mission to bring children living in orphanages in Ukraine, and all around the world, #BackToFamily #ChildProtection #LovingFamilies #Orphanages

“There is no love there. Children have food, clothes, maybe even toys, but they lack affection and care." Kseniia* worked as a nurse inside an orphanage for five years. The shocking things she witnessed made her quit. Now, she's bravely sharing her story. Exposing the harmful realities of orphanages.
