Turn two-step verification on and off

Last updated: 3 months ago

Important to know

Turning your LinkedIn.com account two-step verification on and off won’t impact access to your LinkedIn.com account. However, all LinkedIn Recruiter, Talent Hub, and Campaign Manager users must turn on two-step verification through their LinkedIn.com account to access their Recruiter, Talent Hub, and Campaign Manager accounts.

If you turn off two-step verification on your LinkedIn.com account, this will prevent access to your Recruiter, Talent Hub, and Campaign Manager accounts.

If you choose to add two-step verification as an additional layer of security, you'll be asked to select an option for the second type of verification method you prefer.

There are two options for you to choose from:

Authenticator App: This method uses an app-based authentication code. You’ll need a phone compatible with an authenticator app, such as Microsoft Authenticator.

Phone Number (SMS): You’ll need a phone capable of receiving SMS (text) messages. The phone number you enter to turn on two-step verification won’t appear on your LinkedIn profile. Note: Carrier charges may apply.

To turn two-step verification on or off:

  1. Click the Me icon at the top of your LinkedIn homepage.
  2. Select Settings & Privacy from the dropdown.
  3. Click Sign in & security on the left rail and click Two-step verification.

  4. Click Turn on or Turn off to change the status of two-step verification.
    • You may be asked to enter your password for security reasons.
    • When turning two-step verification on, enter the verification code sent to your phone.
  5. Click Set up to enable two-step verification, then choose the preferred verification method from the dropdown, and click Continue.

To set up your preferred verification method, continue to the Authenticator App Verification or Phone Number (SMS) Verification steps below.

Note: If two-step verification is turned off, LinkedIn will also forget all previously recognized devices and you'll only need your username and password to sign in. Learn more about what to do if you’ve lost access to your phone or authenticator app.
