Heat Pump Ready

Phase 1 of Heat Pump Ready has led to 11 projects successfully completing feasibility studies for their high density heat pump deployment projects across urban and rural areas in the UK. These projects took a collaborative approach to assess the impact on local electricity grid networks, installer and supply chains, and consumer engagement of innovative methodologies for the deployment of domestic heat pumps. The feasibility reports are now available for the wider industry on the Heat Pump Ready website. Heat Pump Ready is funded by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero as part of #NZIP. The learnings and collaboration stream of the programme is managed by The Carbon Trust with support from Ipsos UK and Technopolis Group. "We need to retrofit and improve homes so they don’t waste energy and contribute to CO2 emissions, while making homes more affordable to live in. Major landlords including city and local authorities, along with housing associations are working towards upgrading their stock. However, while many innovative solutions have been delivered, retrofitting at scale and pace has proved to be a significant challenge. Scale is important. Given the sheer number of homes in this country, a system-led approach is required to address these issues in a meaningful way by the net zero deadlines we have set ourselves (and that the climate science demands). Spurred on by its climate emergency declaration and pledge to support the health and wellbeing of residents, Leeds City Council has adopted an area-based approach to transforming homes and entire neighbourhoods. Arup has been supporting the city’s work throughout the project cycle from feasibility studies to project management of retrofit delivery. The city has undertaken to improve properties from its own stock of 55,000 homes including 115 towers." #yorkshire #heating #retrofit #energyefficiency #climatechange https://lnkd.in/eSYe6sAF

A really useful article, with some helpful real-world examples, that really highlights some of the skewed fiscal prioritising currently happening under the 'green revolution'. The facts supporting a 'fabric-first' approach in the pursuit of decarbonisation are long established and set out in the UK energy hiearchy. Energy efficiency also aligns more closely to the drivers of the energy trilema than many other solutions. #energyhiearchy #energytrilema #energytransition #warmpeople https://lnkd.in/dbus8MNg
