APTUS Apprentice Programme (previously OGTAP)

OGTAP (Oil and Gas Technical Apprentice Programme) is a prestigious apprenticeship training scheme. This year, OGTAP has been rebranded with a new name and identity, APTUS, meaning to adapt, to adjust and to be prepared. This reflects the evolution of both the programme and the entire industry as the energy transition gathers pace.

APTUS, a leading energy apprenticeship programme managed by OPITO and ECITB, values diversity. It requires no prior experience and encourages applicants from all backgrounds. This is vital as it guarantees a diverse workforce for the future while maintaining its fair application process.

APTUS apprentices have the opportunity to gain recognised qualifications, combined with practical training hosted by APTUS sponsoring companies.

The programme is offered in four key disciplines:

  • Electrical Maintenance
  • Mechanical Maintenance
  • Process Operations
  • Instrumentation and Control Maintenance

Here’s a taster from our Apprentice Champions explaining why its one of the most sought-after apprenticeships in the country:

Apprentices attend an industry appointed college for 21 months, gaining various qualifications including:

  • Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ) Level 2 (Performing Engineering Operation)
  • National Certificate (multi-discipline)
  • Higher National Certificate (allocated discipline)
  • OPITO Global Standards - Oil and Gas Level 2

After college, apprentices spend two years with a sponsoring energy company where they receive expert training and mentoring, gaining industry specific skills as well as an SVQ Level 3 in their chosen discipline.

Applications for the 2024 intake are now open, and will close on 1 April 2024. To find out more about APTUS apprenticeships, click here.
