Some recipes are to die for...

...so Clive discovers on a night to remember.
From hopeful new restaurant owner, to desperately fleeing demons and all manner of creatures. To survive, he’s going to need some serious help from friends, both old and new as he is portaled into a deeply troubled world full of magic and prejudice.

There is greatness, there is wonder, yet there is shame and despair in equal measure.

Despite attempts to be virtuous, more often than not it is anger, fear and lust that drive our all too human protagonists.

They are weak in a world full of strength and all they have is their determ… belligerence to stay alive.

While power will come, it will not always come easy.

Welcome, to the God of the Feast.

Intense RPG apocalypse story and humorous

Reviewed at: Chapter 6 Sock Rocket

Very easy to get into this story. We see conflict right away with enough worldbuilding and high stakes to keep me interested in what will happen next and how the main character will survive. Interesting twists on the apocalypse rpg with the quest being a mysterious recipe book. I really like the main character. He's not perfect but is a fighter and will likely prove himself resourceful. It's interesting that they can't see their stats right away, but then can read upgrades. Funny moments in the dialogue and in the exchange with friends about the sock weapon. Chapter length lends well to binge reading. I like the demon freak ninja because he seems like a credible threat, has cool powers and is also kinda scary. Nice descriptions throughout including the demons face. I am intrigued at when we will see the woman again and how the tension will remain with how powerful she is at that high level. So far so good as she was just there shortly, but I wouldn't want her saving them too frequently/ though I'm sure that's not the plan. The setup has solid traditional role playing game post apocalyptic tropes for beginner skills but is also unique as they have to be creative with what they have. I like that they can advance quickly at the start of the story based on prior experience in some areas. That will help move it along quickly to some epic butt kicking , or butt sock rocking, if I may.

Love this story. Characters are fun. Story starts small but racks up in a good pace.

Levels do start to get a bit crazy though. No harem. Big plus. Women are not just side candy and actually have (most of them) a real character. Stats... don't seem to matter to much tbh but i am fine with it. Not a very crunchy litrpg. More of a guideline for power. Most of it is kept rather vague so the author cannot stumble over his own rules.

Overall solid 4,5-5 best i read in a long time here on RR and KU

On RR there are some spelling mistakes and the odd word that doesn't fit but overall it is fine.

I am a bit confused by the world though... Worldbuilding is good. Just... really small for the stakes. I just don't really see why this one world is so important of there are, according to one powerfull character, billions of intelligens species out there. Not people. Species. So why does this one world, and i think jsut one continent on that world get so much attention? There seems to be not even living that many people there in the grand scheme of things. 50 Mill maybe?

are we on a continent or is this the whole world? Are the "planes" just different planets as apparantly one of the paralles to the main world reached others from the planes... bit murky there

Well written, well plotted and very funny.

Reviewed at: Chapter 12 Who put the T in Meditation

This is a very well written and very funny story. For me the star of the show is how the MC Clive and his mates take the p#ss out of each other, and make jokes even when they are in tight situations with the bad guys, typical British humour and very funny. The story is still developing at this point, but is coming together well and is nicely paced. The characters are finding their feet and are working well together. Overall, this is looking like a great read and is definitely one to follow.

The start of this story is awesome.  The sarcastic naration and scramble to figure out what is going on - as well as the MC's friends coming through the portal with him- puts a interesting spin on an old format.

I like the style of writing throughout the story, there are just two issues that I had:

1. What the fuck is going on with the quotation marks?  Half of them seem to have wandered off to random spots down the page

2. A relationship seems to metastasize and consume what was a decent plot.

Overall the story has a great feel to it, in-between combat scenes, and actual combat scenes feels nice its not too fast or too slow though at one point he does jump about 20 levels but it's fine that way help pace the story better, so far it's honestly one of the first stories on here that actually made me like some side characters, and from someone who literally skips ever side chapter I haven't skipped a single chapter which surprised myself, so good work author I hope to see some more chapters soon.

You know it's good when you see a Baatazu demon on chapter 1!
I love the premise and Clive is a breath of fresh air compared to the majority of MCs in other stories who are the typical edgelords.
Formatting can also be kinda hit or miss with LitRPG but this one's solid.
I can't wait to see where this is going ^_^

I read the first one and got hooked. I like the way the book is set up. The author really brings the mc to life. I do hope this is a long series because I will be sad the day it ends. I will be checking out some of the other works from the author and hope they are just as good.

Starts weird, gets great, immersive & V practical

Reviewed at: Chapter 51 Not the Man I Used to Be

Considering the quantity of Isekai out there, its hard to find stuff that gets you interested, immersed and then want more of. One of them currently is this beaut.

It started a bit weird and dove right into a bit of complications but the transition from there was pretty smooth. World building progressing from there went well, being set in the medieval magic filled world. Storyline is pretty simple and interesting at the same time and though most emotional scenes open a bit ridiculous there is as much humanity in them as one could practically expect, so that’s a great plus point for the style and story of this series.
The system does feel pretty OP and the possibilities to get OP seem very easy. But then again installing Anti plot armor of sorts to nerf those from happening, which so far happened looks to take this story a long way. And it felt more entertaining this way considering how many stories fail because of quick story progression.
Excellent grammar with easy to understand sentence formations and simpler words will let anyone with novice English skills enjoy pretty much everything the author wants the reader to understand.
Characters have very practical behavioral patterns except for of course some rare moments like in any expected fantasy stories. Some situations are questionable but it’s a great read that’s gets pretty immersive pretty soon.

TL;DR; Def a good read, you’ll like it very quickly despite some very minor situations that might irk a few and would come back for more.

Great story and fresh perspective

Reviewed at: Delays!

Great story and a different perspective and world-building approach than I have seen before. I am American and a fantasy from a UK perspective is refreshing. I find myself wanting to guess what's happening next and am often surprised in all good ways. The main Clive is a bit of a whiner sometimes but I think part of it is trying to convey the thought process in the moment. I don't feel like all of the worlds have had the same attention yet but that is part of having such a big universe to work with.

I like to god of the feast angle and his motivations are genuine. I hope to see him grow and world-building happen without so much BIG bad guy pressure. I want to know what's happening on each planet and see Clive have an impact on more of the people directly. I like how he interacted with the people and governments on Earth for example.

Give this story a chance it goes deep into what it would be like to be plucked from your world and dropped into another larger universe but it is not just a typical story he fights monsters falls in love and gets stronger all along to fight Gods that all turn out to be puppets. He builds alliances and defeats foes.

Pretty wild ride.

People from our moder sensibities thrown into a MASSIVELY different setting. If you thought you knew violent culture shock, you are probably right.

But since in that case you are probably in a cell in some Asian country, you cannot disprove so this is the safest alternative!!!

Give it a try!!
