New York based architectural design and research
Dimitra Tsachrelia is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Columbia University GSAPP and a licensed architect in New York, practicing with Steven Holl Architects (SHA) since 2008. She received her Diploma in Architecture from the Patras University, School of Architecture, Greece, and she holds the M.S Degree in Advanced Architectural Design from Columbia University GSAPP where she was awarded the Lucille Smycer Lowenfish Memorial Prize and the Honor Award for Excellence in Design.
Dimitra carries an international cultural perspective with extensive experience in practicing architecture for Educational and Cultural Institutions. Among other projects and competitions, she worked on the Campbell Sports Center in New York, the Glasgow School of Art in Scotland, the VCU’s Institute for Contemporary Art in Richmond, VA, and the Ostrava Concert Hall for the Janacek Philharmonic Orchestra in the Check Republic.
Her interests lay in the cross fertilization of music, painting, sculpture, and architecture rooted in the timelessness of experiential phenomena. Art/ Architecture is communication and demands space, physical and metaphorical, that responds to‐ and enables expression. Art/ Architecture that conveys ideas is a force for social change equally on an intimate and universal scale.
Eirini Tsachrelia is an Int’l Associate AIA and she has been teaching undergraduate and graduate design studios at Parsons School of Constructed Environments, New York City College of Technology, and the Spitzer School of Architecture.
Since 2020 she is serving as the Director of Educational Programs at ‘T’ Space / Steven Myron Holl Foundation (SMHF), where she has instructed the Summer Architecture Residency since 2017.
Eirini has served as a panelist and as juror at numerous New York architectural education institutions including the 2016 and 2022 'Pamphlet Architecture' design competition Jury. Eirini has curated art and architecture exhibitions for international art festivals and galleries, including 'Art in Progress' in Greece, and 'Immersive Gallery' in New York. She received her Diploma in architecture with honors from Patras University, School of Architecture in Greece, and her M.S Degree in Advanced Architectural Design with honors from GSAPP Columbia University in New York. She is a WELL AP and Living Future (LFA ) Accredited Professional.
She sees the Study of architectural design as a persistent unfolding of form/ tectonics/ context through which architectural intelligence may emerge, and she engages in such Study with dialectical/ dialogical/ geometric tools, aiming to reveal what otherwise remains hidden; echoing Heraclitu’s “Nature loves being concealed”.
Dimitra and Eirini have designed and curated the work "Sustain/Ability", the official Greek participation for the 21st Triennale in Milan "21st Century. Design after Design", in collaboration with Nicholas Karytinos. In 2017 the work was acquired by ‘T’ Space, and is permanently installed on the grounds of T2 Reserve in Rhinebeck, New York.
